Which one do you prefer for link building?

Both, but blog commenting is easier and you can find blogs related to your niche easily. Good directories are usually rare, and a usually paid or need reciprocal links which I hate.

I'd have to go with directory submissions, mainly because you have more control. If the directory allows it then you can use your anchor text as the detailed page which in turn give you a link which is almost a 100% relevant. Blog commenting works, my only problem is most sites in your niche use the nofollow tag on all comments, and the blogs that don't use the nofollow may chose to change it, so while it is still great for traffic it has no value seo wise.

yea but submitting to directories can be time consuming. Also we might have to invest aswell.

I think blog commenting is more time consuming compared to directory submission unless you spam on those blogs!

blog commenting dosent really need registering + you usually know what to write and you dont have to go through a hand full of processing like verifying your site before submission.

just make sure that the blog where you are going to comment belongs to your pool of expertise.
